Caring for your pet’s teeth is as important as looking after your own.
Pets can’t brush their teeth and just like people, dogs and cats are at risk of dental problems that can cause pain and serious health issues.
Dental disease affects 80% of dogs and 70% of cats by the age of two*. It’s caused by a build-up of bacteria and pus that irritate the gums and loosen the teeth. The bacteria can then easily enter the bloodstream and spread to the pet’s vital organs, such as the lungs, liver, kidney and heart.
Warning signs of dental disease include; bad breath, bleeding gums, a yellow brown crust on teeth and abnormal drooling.
The good news is that most dental disease is preventable, reversible or treatable through pet dental care and regular home care.
Catching tooth problems early will help avoid severe dental disease as well as expensive and invasive treatments. You can do this by brushing your pet’s teeth regularly, feeding them a special food that works like a toothbrush, checking their teeth regularly and taking them in for regular check-ups with your vet.
Your Vet is your pet’s dentist. Just as people should have regular check-ups by their dentists, your pet needs dental care by your Vet every six to twelve months.
As part of our commitment to the prevention and treatment of dental disease in animals, Wauchope Vets has invested in a state-of-the-art dental machine, the newest of its kind and one of only two in New South Wales! This machine delivers human quality standard treatments and ensures your pet’s experience ís less painful and free of trauma, throughout their dental treatment.
